Cultivated Silk
Cultivated Silk also called cultivated, cell-based & precision-fermented) is a biofabricated material made by producing silk proteins through engineered cells and fermentation systems instead of traditional silkworm farming. Scientists recreate the proteins found in natural silk to develop fibers with high strength, flexibility, and durability for use in textiles, medical sutures, and advanced materials. Several companies are already producing cultivated silk for specialized applications, with wider adoption expected in the future. Learn more about Cultivated Silk.
