Who I Am
Hello, and welcome! I’m Niloofar Moharrami, the founder of Nested Questions.
I was born and raised in Iran, where my fascination with nature first began in the small sunny garden of our family home.
I have always been deeply curious about the natural world—animals, plants, fungi, ecosystems, and our relationship with everything around us. Understanding nature has been my lifelong passion. I believe that the more we understand the natural world, the better equipped we are to protect it, appreciate it, and make thoughtful decisions about our place within it.
My Story
My journey has taken many turns. I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree, a field I loved for its blend of art and science, but my curiosity about the broader mysteries of nature kept pulling me in other directions. During my studies, I became involved in scientific research, which taught me the importance of evidence, critical thinking, and drawing conclusions based on reliable data.
My experience working with animals—especially founding a dog rescue center in Iran—showed me that good intentions alone are not enough. Without knowledge, even well-intentioned efforts can unintentionally do more harm than good. This realization led me to move to Scotland, where I began studying veterinary medicine at the University of Glasgow. . Although I chose a different path before completing the program, the experience gave me valuable insight into animal biology, health, and welfare and reinforced where my real passion lies: understanding nature as an interconnected whole.
Today, I live between Slovakia and Thailand. In Slovakia, I have been involved with environmental NGOs and conservation initiatives. Living part of the year in Thailand allows me to spend more time exploring tropical ecosystems and marine life, giving me the opportunity to experience a very different side of the natural world and continually broaden my perspective on nature.
Why Nested Questions Exists
I believe that if we want to make meaningful changes or responsibly interact with nature, we must first understand it. That kind of knowledge should be available to everyone—not only to scientists or people working in academia.
Today we have access to more information than ever before, yet reliable, science-based knowledge is often buried beneath opinions, misinformation, and commercial content. That challenge inspired me to create Nested Questions.
The name Nested Questions comes from a learning method I am developing and use throughout this website. Every meaningful question naturally leads to many smaller questions. As each one is explored, new questions emerge, gradually building a deeper and more complete understanding of a subject. I believe this reflects one of the most natural ways humans learn. It mirrors how children discover the world by constantly asking “why?” and “how?”, and how curiosity drives scientific discovery. I created the Nested Questions method to embrace this natural process of learning and apply it to understanding the natural world through curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific evidence.
How I Research
Nested Questions is more than a blog. It is a learning hub built to help people of all ages better understand the natural world. Whether you’re learning to become a naturalist, raising the next generation of nature lovers, exploring remarkable destinations where nature can be experienced firsthand, or seeking to better understand the relationship between humans and the natural world, you’ll find guidance and carefully selected resources to support your learning journey.
To do this, I read scientific literature, compare evidence from reliable sources, fact-check claims, and bring together information from multiple perspectives into evidence-based reviews that are accurate, understandable, practical, and inspiring.
Although I am not currently working in academia, I remain committed to rigorous research, critical thinking, and citing trustworthy scientific sources. I continue learning through self-study, observation, and exploration while using modern AI tools to organize information, compare perspectives, improve workflows, and support the development of this website. Every article is carefully researched, reviewed, and verified by me before publication.
My Mission
This platform is my way of giving back to nature. My hope is that more people develop a deeper understanding of the natural world, become lifelong learners, and make thoughtful decisions based on reliable scientific knowledge.
My own experiences have been shaped by living in different countries and ecosystems, which is why Nested Questions is written for a global audience. Nature knows no borders, and my goal is to create resources that are relevant, accessible, and inspiring to curious people wherever they live.
